Climate: Naalehu/So. Pt. side has an average annual rainfall of 50 inches and temp of 72F/22C. Pahala side has a dry-summer tropical savanna climate with hot daytimes and mild nights. The Kaʻū Desert is a leeward desert in the district made up mostly of dried lava remnants, volcanic ash, sand and gravel.

Climate: North & South Kona have afternoon rains, tropical wet and dry climate zones for wet summers and dry winters. Mauna Loa and Hualalai volcanoes provide shelter from the trade winds, but the airflow eventually wraps around and encounters the warmer air, creating rainfall.
